DIABETES: | ||

Background:Glucose is created when your body breaks down food to use for energy. Your body uses glucose as its main source of fuel with the help of a hormone called insulin. Insulin acts like a key to unlock the body’s cells, so glucose can enter and serve as fuel for the cells. This is how most people’s bodies maintain a fairly normal amount of sugar in the bloodstream. That’s not the case with type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes can’t maintain normal sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Having type 2 diabetes means that your body doesn't make enough insulin, or doesn't properly use the insulin your body makes. Insulin, which is made in your pancreas, helps your body's cells use sugar from your bloodstream, which comes from foods and drinks. Sugar is a source of energy for cells. With type 2 diabetes, high levels of sugar build up in your blood. This can lead to serious health problems. That's why lowering blood sugar is the key to managing diabetes. Keeping your blood sugar under control lowers your risk for health problems later. High blood sugar can harm your organs and raise your risk of heart disease. This happens either because the body doesn’t make enough insulin or because the body can’t use its own natural insulin properly—a process called insulin resistance. High blood sugar sets off processes that can lead to complications, like heart, kidney, and eye disease, or other serious problems. The good news is that healthy eating, exercise, and, possibly, nutraceuticals can help. If you have adult onset diabetes and already are on medications or your physician has recommended medication, with the proper diet and the use of herbs, vitamins and nutraceuticals (natural compounds), there is a good chance we can help you get off your medications and prevent the complications associated with diabetes. We can accomplish this because we look beneath the tip of the iceberg and evaluate you for your unique biochemical deficiencies. Every person has a unique biochemistry called “Biochemical Individuality”. Once we know the cellular deficiencies and correct for them with the use of the right vitamins, nutrients, nutraceuticals and herbs that are best for you, the body begins to change for the better virtually immediately. Over time with a change in diet and through our comprehensive program, many of our patients can reduce or get off their type 2 diabetes medicines. FIRST VISIT TO OUR OFFICE:When you come to the office you will be examined by one of our physicians who may recommend one or more of the following tests: · Fasting Glucose and Insulin · HgbAIC · Vitamins and Nutrients Blood Test · ACTH Test · Heavy Metal Test · Metabolic Profile · TRH Stimulation Test Note: Not all patients need all the above tests. The specific tests are determined on an individual basis. After the test results are received, you will meet with your physician again who will establish a detailed protocol for you to follow. There will be periodic follow-up meetings with the physicians to adjust the protocol as necessary. Managing DiabetesGood health begins with your personal plan to manage diabetes. You and our doctor will come up with a plan and protocol. It is important that you follow it. The goal of treatment is to keep your blood sugar level as close to normal as you can. Changing your eating habits and being more active are very important first steps. But healthy eating and exercise don’t always lower blood sugar enough. You must stay with the protocol that our physician recommends for you and may need to take one or more supplements and nutraceuticals to keep your blood sugar under control. | ||
