Patients Medical takes a different approach to holistic medicine than many other wellness centers.  We believe that our patients should benefit as much from modern medical research and technology as those that visit conventional doctors’ offices.  We do not categorically reject conventional medicine; instead, we feel that it complements our holistic treatments well, allowing us to diagnose patients more quickly and accurately.

Rest assured that this technology is never used for a “quick fix” to any of our patients’ problems.  Our desire is to help us examine a patient’s health issues as thoroughly as possible.  We are keenly aware that many doctors will write a quick prescription to cure the immediate symptoms.  At Patients Medical, we aspire to offer our patients more than that.  Through the advanced diagnostic testing and treatment available at our facilities, we instead hope to provide an extremely comprehensive, highly personalized health care experience.

Toward this goal, our center has invested in more than $1 million in cutting edge medical technology. Our doctors and practitioners also stay abreast of the scientific literature, constantly educating themselves about the latest techniques and treatments.

We also recognize that many new discoveries in medicine require extensive preliminary testing before they can get funding for organized clinical trials.  In support of this, we have available several recently developed protocols that have shown to be very successful with our patients, including:

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen has been used for decades to treat diving-related illnesses, deep infections, and severe burns.  Its use is officially sanctioned for thirteen specific conditions described by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society.  Beyond these, however, this technology has been shown to be useful for treating many other conditions, though the much of the data is preliminary.  Such “off-label” use of this technology (which is permitted by the FDA) also includes treatment for asthma, autism, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, stroke rehabilitation, and many others.

Bio-Identical Hormones

Although some natural sources of hormones are used for hormone replacement therapies, the majority of treatments are done using manufactured hormones.  Because biological molecules cannot be patented, pharmaceutical companies typically make subtle structural changes to the hormones so that they can still profit from their sales.  Bio-identical hormones are instead synthesized such that they are structurally identical to their natural counterparts.  A January 2009 study published by Dr. Kent Holtorf confirmed that not only are bio-identical hormones as potent as pharmaceutical hormones, there appear to be fewer health risks associated with them.  Our doctors at Patients Medical were recommended for their expertise with bioidentical hormones by Suzanne Somers in her book Ageless: The Naked Truth about Bioidentical Hormones.

DAN Protocol (for Autism)

Defeat Autism Now (DAN) is an organization that formed in 1995 to promote collaboration between researchers, doctors, and parents of autistic children.  Through their regular conferences, the latest biomedical research publications are shared and evaluated to update the DAN Protocol, a comprehensive autism treatment manual released to licensed DAN practitioners.  In these approaches, the drugs conventionally used to manage autism are considered the last choice.  Instead, nutritional supplements, chelation therapies, dietary modifications, and other natural methods are emphasized to offer the autistic child the safest and most effective long term treatment regimens available.
