Conventional Treatments for Arthritis
The treatment for Arthritis is imparted in a combination of exercise, light diet, rest and relaxation, medication, and instructions regarding the movements of joints and ways of conserving energy. Most of the treatments are based on pain relief and limiting of the disease, since permanent cure is not available. Techniques and devices such as braces or splints are used for helping the patient. In critical cases, surgery may be advised. Mostly, the treatment is based on an action plan decided keeping in mind the condition of the patient.
Medications for Arthritis include, pain relievers such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (e.g., Advil) and acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol). Hyaluronic acid products like Hyalgan and Synvisc are injected directly into the joint for providing temporary relief from pain and inducing flexible joint movements.
Heat and Cold, both conditions are at times used to treat arthritic pain.
Capsaicin cream is an ointment that relieves pain when limited joints are affected.
Hydrotherapy- involving relaxing in warm water, Mobilization Therapy- involving traction and massages help in relaxing stiff joints and Relaxation Therapy with the help of Physiotherapists.
In extreme cases surgery is required for repairing damaged joints for restoring normal functionality and pain. Doctors often recommend arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery or bone fusion in such cases.
Patients Medical Arthritis Treatment
At Patients Medical we treat plenty of patients, who want to reap the benefits of alternative therapies while avoiding the trauma of surgery and after effects of drugs. Our treatment follows a combination of the total healing process based on exercise, healthy diet, managing stress and hot and cold applications, as suited to each individual patient.
The exercises are governed by those defined by The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. Diet is a combination of essential minerals, fruits and green vegetables, less of fat, salt and sugar both in moderation, restrained alcohol consumption and healthy eating habits. Since each patient's problem is individualistic, the diet to be followed is also advised separately to each patient.
Managing and controlling of stress is taught as a part of our program on Arthritis. Since one cannot decrease stress, the emphasis here is one regulating and coping with it.
At Patients Medical, both heat and cold therapies are practiced as per individual requirements. While heat eases the muscles and helps in mobility, cold treatment often makes the area numb helping in relieving the intense pain.
Patients Medical Supplements Used
Patients Medical has its own special regiment of supplements that effectively treat and tackle Arthritis. As a part of our alternative therapy, these supplements do not have any side effects. Since the supplements are not FDA approved, Patients Medical does not advocate the use of these supplements in isolation to other medication already being used as per recommendations of a medical practitioner.
