Types of Asthma

There are various types of Asthma; these types of Asthma are divided according to condition and general symptoms. The general Asthma can be categorized in to three types. These three types are -

• Extrinsic Asthma - This type of asthma is caused when a foreign particle enters the body. Antigen such as cigarette smoke, pollen, dust particles and perfumes. This type of asthma is allergic and people with allergic asthma and their family members often have other allergy related problems like rhinitis, hay fever, skin rashes, eczema and hives.

• Intrinsic Asthma - This type of asthma is caused due to the infection in the respiratory organs. This type of Asthma is not related to any kind of allergy. Intrinsic asthma is caused by inhalation of chemicals, chest infection, cleaning agents, cold air, food preservatives or even stress. Treatment of intrinsic asthma is not very easy as it may not be known what is actually triggering this type of asthma firstly and therefore avoiding any probable cause can become fatal.
• Mixed Asthma - Mixed asthma is a combination of the above two types of asthma. In this type both the nature of intrinsic and extrinsic asthma is present. Most of the Asthma patients suffer from mixed type. If a person inhales undesired substances it can result in a chest infection too.

The Asthma which is divided according to the types of conditions is of three types too. These three types of asthma which depends on the conditions are-

• Nocturnal Asthma- As the name suggests this type of asthma attacks during night. Patients suffering from nocturnal asthma fall asleep quickly since they get physically exhausted but they wake up three to four hours later facing breathing difficulties.
• Bronchial Asthma - This is an allergic asthma which happens due to some kind of allergic reactions and thus causes breathing problem and wheezing. The smooth muscle which encloses the airways spasm causing them to narrow down and the mucus is usually produced as the airway becomes aggravated.
• Seasonal Asthma - This type of asthma is not chronic. This asthma gets triggered by the pollens from various plants, trees and flowers. These pollens are carried in the atmosphere by the wind which enters the body system causing asthma.

Asthma can be caused due to certain types hazardous occupation. Occupational asthma is one of the types of asthma that can be triggered at work place. Common causes of occupational asthma are chemical fumes, glue fumes, saw dust and constant dusty conditions.
