Skin Cancer Causes

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the primary cause of skin cancer. A virus causes Kaposi's sarcoma, while Paget's disease is related to underlying breast cancer. Research conducted on skin cancer shows that excessive sunburns during childhood may often lead to developing skin cancer in later stages in life.

People exposed to certain chemicals and even those with weakened immune systems, especially those affected by AIDS, are prone to developing some kinds of skin cancer.

Risk Factors of Skin Cancer

Some of the risks that might make a person prone to skin cancer are:

  • Having light-colored eyes
  • Exposure to excessive sun while still a child
  • Being fair skin and having red or blond hair
  • Those who get easily sun burned
  • Having a family history of skin cancer
  • Been exposed to UV rays from an early age
  • Having plenty of freckles, moles, and birthmarks
  • Having experienced serious sunburn some time in the past
  • Those living in areas receiving maximum levels of UV radiation are likely to develop skin cancer

Conventional Treatments of Skin cancer

Symptoms of early or initial stages of Basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer are treated with surgery or with a frozen treatment.

In the surgical treatment the diseased area of the skin and a small section of the surrounding healthy tissue are surgically removed to ensure that all cancer cells have been destroyed.

Other methods to remove the skin cancer are by freezing the area with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. Once this is achieved the dead tissue is easily removed. Radiation is also at times recommended in those cases where surgery is not a suitable option.

Advanced cases of an aggressively spreading melanoma requires drastic treatment especially if the cancer has spread to all parts of the body. In such cases, a person's lymph nodes may be removed if they are affected by skin cancer. Radiation therapy is also recommended in such cases.

Patients Medical Skin Cancer Treatment

Skin cancer protocols are approached in a holistic manner.  Our doctors and their team of experts aim at curing the root cause of your disease rather than just a treatment for a time period.   At Patients Medical we use an all natural way for people to replace those essential ingredients their bodies so desperately need in the daily diet. By simply eating a combination of just two natural and delicious foods not only can cancer be prevented but in case after case it was actually cured. (These two natural foods, organic flax seed oil & cottage cheese), which must be eaten together to be effective since one triggers the properties of the other to be released.)

Eating certain foods or following therapeutic diets may help prevent skin cancer. It is hard to test the role of nutrients in protecting against various forms of skin cancer, but several studies have investigated the role of antioxidants (including vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, zinc, and vitamin A), folic acid, fats and proteins, and a variety of whole foods. While results are not absolutely clear, there may be some protective effect from antioxidants. There may also be a protective effect from foods such as fish, beans, carrots, chard, pumpkin, cabbage, broccoli, and vegetables containing beta-carotene and vitamin C. Studies on animals suggest that lignans, substances found in foods such as soy and flaxseed, may also help fight cancer in general, including the spread of melanoma from one part of the body to another.

Other substances found in plants may help protect the skin from sun-related damage. These include

  • Apigenin, a flavanoid in vegetables and fruits, including broccoli, celery, onions, tomatoes, apples, cherries and grapes, and in tea and wine
  • Curcumin, in the spice turmeric
  • Resveratrol, in grape skins, red wine, and peanuts
  • Quercetin, a flavanoid in apples and onions

Selenium has been touted as an antioxidant that might help prevent skin cancer. Therapeutic diets may also help with skin cancer. An example the Gerson diet, which is customized for each patient. This diet may enhance treatment of melanoma. It strives for a low-fat, low-salt diet, hourly feedings of highly concentrated raw fruit and vegetable juice nutrients, and strategies to speed up metabolism (the breakdown and use of food), such as exercise, taking supplements, and restricting calories. Castor oil, administered every other day for several weeks, and coffee enemas given as frequently as every 4 hours over a 24-hour period, are thought to alleviate pain and improve nutritional status.
