Judy Marriott Fowler, LMT, CMA
Judy Marriott Fowler, LMT, CMA has extensive training in movement, massage and lymphatic drainage techniques that give her a comprehensive understanding of the many therapeutic techniques available to treat a wide variety of medical concerns. Judy completed her training at Dr. Vodder's International School of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy. She is also a Certified Movement Analyst, trained at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, here in New York City. A graduate of the Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy, she is a licensed massage therapist.
With a background in modern dance, Judy is passionate about combining fitness and movement science with hands-on soft tissue manipulation therapies from which she created a series of workshops for outpatient rehabilitation, incorporating postural awareness to help patients increase their range of motion after surgery or injury.
Manual lymph drainage is supportive for people of all ages, with a wide variety of medical conditions, including:
Gentle, rhythmic massage strokes are used along the skin's surface over and around the specific areas where the lymph nodes reside inside the body. This therapy can feel very relaxing and is different from deep tissue massage strokes that are meant for deep muscle relaxation and kneading. Manual lymph drainage is meant to be nurturing, not necessarily aggressive.
After the therapy, as lymph nodes drain, patients may notice:
- A reduction in swelling
- Decreased congestion (sinuses, allergies)
- Decreased bruising
- Less sensitivity in skin scars or incisions
- Decreased healing time for scars
- Lower incidence of adhesions
- Increased comfort
- Decrease in anxiety and stress
Sessions with Judy for manual lymph drainage therapy are one hour long, with a brief consultation prior to the treatment. In most cases, the best results can be achieved with a series of treatment sessions, however most patients feel a difference in their health after even one session.
