What are the first signs of Sjogren’s Syndrome?

The first signs of Sjogren's syndrome are typically dryness in the mouth and eyes. Other common early symptoms include:

  • Dryness of the eyes (also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca), which can cause itching, burning, and the sensation of having something in the eye.
  • Dryness of the mouth (also known as xerostomia), which can make it difficult to speak, swallow, and taste food.
  • Fatigue, which can be severe and is one of the most common symptoms reported by people with Sjogren's.
  • Joint pain and stiffness, which is often mistaken for rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Skin rashes or dry, itchy skin.

It is important to note that these symptoms can occur gradually and may not be noticed at first. It's also worth noting that these symptoms can be caused by other conditions, so a proper diagnosis should be made by a medical professional.
