What triggers Sjogren’s syndrome?

The exact triggers for Sjogren's syndrome are not well understood, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Some research suggests that a combination of genetic susceptibility and an abnormal immune response triggered by a viral or bacterial infection may play a role in the development of the disorder. Additionally, hormones may also be involved as the condition is more common in women and tends to occur during the time of life when hormone levels are changing, such as menopause.
In some cases, Sjogren's may be triggered or made worse by certain environmental factors, such as exposure to certain chemicals, UV radiation, or viral or bacterial infections. Stress and certain medications also can trigger or worsen symptoms.
It's important to note that Sjogren's syndrome is a complex disorder and the underlying cause is still under research. The triggers may vary from person to person, and the same trigger may not affect everyone the same way.
