Conditions Treated With and Costs for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

by Rashmi Gulati, MD

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used to treat patients who suffer from various diseases or injuries associated with hypoxia, or lack of oxygen on a cellular level. HBOT can also be used for its antibiotic properties as it enhances infection control. These conditions include:

In addition to FDA approval, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) endorses HBOT for the treatment of conditions noted in the first column.  The physicians at Patients Medical have treated the conditions included in the table above—both FDA approved and non-FDA approved conditions with off-label applications of the therapeutic modality.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for FDA approved conditions is covered by most insurance plans.  Non-FDA approved off-label uses cost an average of $200 per 60-minute session.

Patients Medical makes no claims as to hyperbaric oxygen therapy efficacy for any condition, other than the indications approved by the FDA.
