Egg Freezing – Preserve Your Fertility on Your Terms

Why Consider Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing gives women the freedom to pursue life goals without compromising their chance of future motherhood. Whether you’re building your career, waiting for the right partner, or facing medical conditions, our team at Patients Medical in NYC offers expert guidance in fertility preservation using advanced technologies and holistic support.

Egg freezing is ideal for women who:

  • Are delaying childbirth due to career, travel, or relationship timing.
  • Have conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, or autoimmune disorders.
  • Will undergo chemotherapy or fertility-affecting medical treatments.
  • Have a family history of early menopause
  • Simply want the power to choose when to become a parent

When Is the Best Time to Freeze Eggs?

Understanding Fertility and Aging

You are born with a finite number of eggs. By puberty, your reserve declines to ~200,000 and continues to decrease with age. After 35, fertility rapidly declines. Egg freezing offers a proactive way to preserve healthy eggs at a younger age, significantly improving the chances of a healthy pregnancy later.

Vitrification: Advanced Freezing Technology

We use vitrification, a flash-freezing technique that prevents ice crystal formation—preserving egg structure, health, and viability. This method offers high survival and fertilization rates when you’re ready to conceive.

Egg Freezing Timeline & Steps

Consultation

The process begins with an in-depth consultation with a fertility specialist who reviews your medical history, lifestyle, and reproductive goals. During this visit, you’ll learn about the egg freezing process, timelines, and what to expect. An ultrasound may be performed to evaluate your ovaries, and the doctor will help determine whether egg freezing is appropriate for your current stage of reproductive health.

Hormone Testing

To evaluate your fertility potential, a series of hormone tests are conducted. These include Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), and estradiol levels, which give insight into your ovarian reserve. An ultrasound is also performed to count antral follicles in the ovaries. Together, these assessments help your doctor predict how many eggs you may produce and guide the appropriate medication protocol for stimulation.

Ovarian Stimulation

You’ll self-administer daily hormone injections at home for about 10 to 14 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs instead of the single egg released during a normal menstrual cycle. These medications are carefully tailored to your body’s needs. Your fertility team will provide training, instructions, and ongoing support to ensure the injections are done correctly and comfortably during this critical phase.

Monitoring

Throughout the stimulation phase, you’ll visit the clinic approximately 3 to 5 times for bloodwork and transvaginal ultrasounds. These appointments allow the medical team to track follicle growth and hormone levels, making any necessary adjustments to medication dosages. Monitoring ensures that your body is responding properly to the treatment and that your eggs are maturing safely and effectively in preparation for retrieval.

Egg Retrieval

Once your follicles are ready, the egg retrieval procedure is scheduled. It’s a short outpatient process performed under light sedation, lasting about 20–30 minutes. Using ultrasound guidance, a needle is inserted through the vaginal wall to retrieve mature eggs from the ovaries. Recovery is typically quick, with most patients resuming normal activities within a day. The eggs are then assessed for quality and prepared for freezing.

Freezing (Vitrification)

After retrieval, viable eggs undergo a rapid freezing process called vitrification. This technique prevents ice crystal formation and preserves the structural integrity of the eggs for future fertilization. The frozen eggs are stored securely in a cryogenic facility until you’re ready to use them. Vitrification allows you to preserve your fertility and reproductive options, offering flexibility for future family-building when the time is right.

Case Study: Proactive Fertility Preservation Through Egg Freezing

Jessica, a 34-year-old attorney in New York City, came to Patients Medical seeking options to preserve her fertility while focusing on her career. After an initial consultation and hormone testing, her ovarian reserve was found to be within a healthy range. She underwent a 12-day ovarian stimulation cycle with minimal side effects, followed by a successful egg retrieval yielding 18 mature eggs. Using vitrification, her eggs were safely frozen and stored for future use. Jessica expressed peace of mind knowing she had taken control of her reproductive future and now refers others to Patients Medical for the same empowering experience.
